Weather Update Wednesday Jan 18: Mother Nature has put us in the penalty box this weekend with the unseasonably warm weather! We will be closed on Thursday and Friday and expect to be closed on Saturday and Sunday as well.
We understand this unexpected, temporary closure comes as an inconvenience to those who have already purchased tickets or were planning to visit the attraction during Hockey Day festivities on January 21. Unfortunately, we have no control over the weather, and sometimes only a short notice of what the weather allows us to do.
The purpose for closing is because the Ice Castles are made entirely of ice, and this includes the walking surface in the floor. The walking surface is composed of 8” of crushed ice and snow. In exceptionally warm temperatures this surface becomes wet and slushy which is not enjoyable for the guests. As temperatures in the immediate future will not go below freezing, this surface will become increasingly wet, which isn’t as fun for anyone.
As colder temperatures return, our team of ice artisans will easily prepare the walking surface for reopening and provide the same high-quality experience that our guests have come to expect from Ice Castles. Thank you for understanding.

Tips for a Great Experience
- Wear Boots! The walking surface inside of the Ice Castles is made of crushed ice. Walking in boots is definitely best.
- Buy Tickets Before You Arrive! When you buy a ticket, you buy an arrival time. We ask that you arrive within your 30 minute time window. Once you are inside the castle you can stay as long as you’d like!
- Save some trees! When you buy your tickets online we’ll send you an email with a unique QR code, so there’s no need to print your tickets. We can scan the code right from your phone!
- Photos are encouraged (and we want to see them! #icecastles) but we ask that you please leave photography equipment such as tripods and lights at home. For information about commercial or specialized photo sessions please email us at email@example.com.
- We HIGHLY recommend bringing a small sled to pull children instead of a stroller. It is extremely difficult to push the stroller through the castle (think of it like trying to push a stroller through a sandy beach).
- Dress warm: Dress like you are going to experience the elements. We recommend layering clothing as well as hats, mittens, jacket and snow pants.
